5 days of holiday to gold Coast doesn't felt enough. 2 days has been spent on traveling on plane. It took 8 hours to fly from KL airport to gold Coast.

We stay at the Dorchester on the beach, with an amazing view of the ocean, most of the time we eat outside except for breakfast. We spent our first day at the Harbour town outlet store, the place is huge you can spend hours shopping here. Had our first meal here at the nonna's Italian restaurant, it was just an ok meal.

Springbrook National Park is huge, we only managed to visit one of the lookout, the purling falls, the entire walk is about 10km, the fall wasn't too impressive. Burleigh national park is much better, right beside the beach, windy, with an amazing overview of the city. Palm Beach is my personal favorite of all the beaches we've visited, for its calm, crystal clear water. Had a really relaxed and great time at Palm Beach.

On the day our visit to cabarita beach was so windy, the view there was amazing! If only the wind is weaker the visit would have be much better.

Overall the food we had wasn't impressive, the best meal we had are ben's fish and chips and an Indian restaurant nearby tweed mall.

We departed from our house around 5.30am and to meet up with others around 6am at Hulu Langat bt 15 for a quick breakfast, then drive and park the car in bt 18.

It was a cooling morning with thick fog, it started of with flat road which is nice and easy, this route has 2 huge ascending slopes and 2 huge descending then all the way flat until Titi village. I started to push the bike somewhere near the negeri sembilan border, during the last huge slope, my right leg quad muscle cramp and had to stop.
Two motorist stop by for a smoke and ask if I am ok as I look weird standing and not moving. It was only 10am-ish and my leg cramped from then, I am forced to travel on turtle speed, the thoughts of giving up keeps kicking in and thinking how to go back with my leg cramp. But at the end I still manage to complete the planned route. I am proud of myself for being able to push to the limit!
The road back was suffering enough for me, I was all the time behind the 2 others, slopes and slopes with no end, the last 13km seems like a short distance but hell it was suffering, I was so happy to finally see the 'yellow signage' the welcome sign to negeri sembilan as from then it is all the way down!
Came across my pandan and saw these insects that I've never seen in entire of my life even though they are always there. Oh well, they looks pretty photogenic and I guess I should say it is worth standing there for couple of minutes taking them photos while feeding the mosquito.
Without hesitation, of course when flight ticket are on sales (bought it about at least 10 months ago before visiting.). Without much planning, all we did was hired a driver for 2 days bringing us around almost all the temples. You can also find tours, driver or tuktuk for hire in Siem reap they are available in almost every corner.

Wondering where to stay in Siem reap? We booked golden temple villa for 2 nights for about RM80+ per night, I must say, the services they provided are 5 star! and the food served from the kitchen are great too.

Once we arrived the airport, they've arranged a tuktuk to pick us up at the airport, FREE! (all you need to do is when you book through agoda by clicking this link and specific your flight arrival and request a pick up, when arrived at the villa, we were served with ice cold drinks tower and snacks, before showing us where's our room, we were told that we have an hour of Free massage!

Location wise? Golden temple villa is near to the night market about 5-10 minute walking distance

and that is why we spent almost every night at the pub street enjoying the cheap 0.50$ per pint Angkor beer. Yum! Lets get started with what to do in Angkor wat siem reap!

Day 1

When we arrived and check into the villa, it is about 3-4 pm a little bit early to visit the night market. We open up google map and look around (golden temple villa also provides free wifi).

We had our late lunch at the villa, the kitchen serves great food.

Night Market in Siem Reap
It is very easy to locate the night market from where we stay, we had our first dinner at the hottest, loudest club in pub street - temple club, we had Khmer style grill squid ( about 3-4$), steak (7.5$) oh man the steak was so good with the special sauce that they served! not to forget the 0.5$ per pint Angkor beer. Yum!
Sekinchan (適耕莊:鱼米之乡)has been so popular recently for day trip, it's paddy field as well as seafood. You can pretty much see alot posting photos of paddy field in the social media. I've never been to sekinchan and it is the right time to pay a visit as of this month(June) the paddy field will be in Golden tone.

Depart from KL and arrived in Sekinchan after about one and a half hour of driving. The paddy museum signboard is the first thing I saw as soon as we've arrived. Following the signboard to the paddy museum, there's another signboard that says large scale 'wall art', out of Curiosity then follow the signboard in hope to see some really cool large scale paintings, sadly after a few turning left and right, got no idea where it leads, if you've seen the wall art would be great if you can share. Your blog or photo down at the comment section below.

So our first stop are the paddy museum, you can get a ticket to enter the museum, there's also souvenir shop where you can buy rice, brown rice noodle and some other products that made from rice.

The durian flavoured ice cream taste really good especially on this hot weather.

Bought freshly picked corns 7 for Rm10 from the small stall beside the museum, there's also fruits and some sea products. Sekinchan are famous for its paddy as well as sea products.

While on the way to the other attraction, Nan tian gong temple, visited Wa zai mango to get some really huge mangos.

The Nan tian gong temple is just next to the paddy field, a great spot to take photos of the paddy field, there's also lookout tower you can climb up to view the paddy field from top.

Back to the paddy museum, there's a signboard to La familia orchard, unfortunately it was not open today, good thing is more photos of paddy field from a different view.

On the way to the famous beach "pantai redang" you will passby a nicely decorated souvenir shop with a cute name "Grandma's house" 阿嬷的家 for some snacks and cold drinks.

Pantai redang beach is pretty crowded, there's a small temple and a wishing tree where you can throw and hang the red ribbon onto the tree. You can also see fishing boats that are very photogenic. One can camp here, fishing, picnic and all you really do at the beach is relax, no swimming though, as the water here are dirty.

We talked to a local friendly little girl who helped her father to collect the entrance fee for the toilet while he is away, she keeps complaining about how boring is the job just by sitting there for hours. She know exactly the spot where to collect the best seashell, our evening are basically collecting seashells by the beach until dinner time since there is nothing much left to do in Sekinchan.

Ended our day feasting on seafond, only took a quick snap of the salted baked crab which is absolutely delicious. Too busy to feast than feeding the camera.

His is one hell of playful, naughty dog, never stop digging holes in the garden, barks loudly every morning at neighbor's cat, good thing is, in case you forgot to set your alarm, with him barking every morning you basically need no worry about it.
This is my first visiting Putrajaya parks which normally skipped. We begin our journey from Kuala Lumpur at about noon, getting there is pretty straight forward, our first stop is the Botanical garden.

There's bike rental available if you wish to ride around the garden which will be a great idea, we didn't rent a bike because we couldn't locate the office, only found out after we've completed our 'jogs' round the park.

If you (like us) use the entrance and the first thing you see is the Moroccan Pavilion, then you'd probably will skipped the office.

I must say it's pretty fun taking photo with this camera, I always prefer a compact over a dslr during my trips because of the size and weight.

Here are some of my test shots with lx100, can't remember the settings and I think it is shot on aperture priority mode.
Really lucky to have the chance to experience the hospitality provided by a group of local maori artists. They have wonderful voices, and superb waving skills, not to mention about the unique tattoo pattern.

This will be a very long post!

That evening, we are all here for the hangi, which is a type of food that is cook in the Maori people way. Using the steam, buried the food underneath the soil and cook it, something similar to "beggar's chicken" a famous Chinese dish.
We cycle from the center of the town, all the way to air-port the estimate distance is like 12km only. On the way we saw cow and sheep, the biggest challenge is to cycle up hill like 1 km distance.

On our way to airport, while waiting for my housemate to snap pictures of the sheep and cows, I stand infront of a field, then ! suddenly the horse just walk towards me making 'geerr..gerr' noise which scare me abit at first. It is actually a very friendly horse.

And finally of all the struggle cycling through the mountain, the air port of wanganui,
As usual cant wake up at the time I planned and always a rush during the visit to morning market. One of my friend manage to rent a place in morning market to sell her handmade stuffs, pretty cool stuff but I think its a little bit too expensive.

On my way to morning market, I went to the garage sales to look for treasures. I found some really old national geographic magazine, one of the magazine caught my attention, deeply, a 1988, hologram ( I think this is what it is called.) book cover magazine.

1988 National Geographic Hologram Front and back cover

It is really a cool book. Also I have bought a 1964 and a 1956 national geographic issue.
It is very interesting to flip through the magazine as you can really see what is going on at that time. The fashion is totally different, the way they design the books are mainly using illustration. I found something that is particularly interesting which is the Kodak's advertisement. It has a few lenses quite huge and very laser gun looking( like what you see in cartoon) camera. You can somehow see how the culture evolve into what it is right now.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0Whanganui, Whanganui 4500, New Zealand-39.9300887 175.04789010000002-39.9787967 174.96720910000002 -39.8813807 175.12857110000002tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5896856638903698934.post-46748160869805098342009-04-25T06:52:00.004+08:002015-06-01T21:47:32.134+08:00An Introduction To WanganuiWanganui have about 46 thousand of population, a lovely little town with alot of heritage buildings. Great scenery, such as the famous Wanganui river, you can get a superb overview of the town when you walk up to the tower on top of the durial hill.

This is where Wanganui located, On the North Island of New Zealand.

The River City stands proudly at the mouth of one of New Zealand’s great historic waterways.

Wanganui is a delightful provincial centre 2.5 hours drive from Wellington and 6 hours from Auckland. Its 46,000 residents enjoy a laidback lifestyle and their civic pride is evident in the city’s restored colonial building and beautiful parks and gardens.

For the visitor it is well worth the effort of diverting from SH.1 and becoming immersed in the history, culture and ethos of this pleasant riverside city. It was one of the first towns to be established on the New Zealand coast and an important hub of early commerce. The 329km Whanganui River (note that the river and national park carry an aspirate ‘h’) was part of the main ‘highway’ from Wellington to Auckland in colonial times and missionaries and travellers often took two weeks to complete the arduous journey.

Wanganui is a rich amalgam of both Maori and European cultures. The museum and art galleries are amongst the best in New Zealand and the central city shopping areas have been revitalised in recent years in keeping with the colourful colonial past. Kerbside gardens, gaslights, wrought iron seats, palm and plane trees and hanging flower baskets, decorate the main thoroughfare, Victoria Avenue. The restorations are beautifully done and the whole floral effect in summer is blooming marvellous.

The heritage theme extends to cafes, specialty shops, an art deco cinema and English style pubs. Wanganui is so compact that you can easily walk to most attractions including Trafalgar Square Shopping Centre, Taupo Quay and the Queen’s Park and Cook’s Gardens. Art and craft outlets are prolific and fine dining and entertainment are readily available.

Altogether Wanganui is a fascinating amalgam of old river heritage and modern lifestyle without the pressures of big city bustle. As the city’s slogan says ‘Well worth the journey.’
As part of the cooking team, I ran out to catch the "miss wanganui competition" with tommy, yup we ran there with all our saliva dripping all over and then foong chase us up with her camera. Managed to snap some of the 'miss wanganui wanabe'. I call myself the god of frying chicken, see the picture below and feel the tastiness of the chickens.
